Panel Makes Recommendations for Public's Role in Net Control

A blue-ribbon panel handed down its final recommendations for what role the online public should play in managing the Internet's worldwide addressing system, but the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) may not act on those recommendations until sometime next year. Before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, ICANN - the body that manages the global Domain Name System (DNS) - had been slated to decide before the end of 2001 how much say the online public should have in making ICANN decisions.
