House Committee to Vote on "Kids" Domain

The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee said that it will vote this week on a proposal to establish a "dot-kids" domain to cater to child-oriented Web sites. While many children's advocates and lawmakers want to create an Internet domain that contains only child-friendly Web sites, some Congress members have fretted over the legislation, suggesting that it increases government involvement in an area that should see more free enterprise and less Uncle Sam.
