Senator to Introduce Broad Internet Privacy Legislation

A key U.S. senator will introduce a controversial bill that could give consumers greater control over how their personal information is used by online companies. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ernest "Fritz" Hollings, D-S.C., will offer legislation that would require Internet businesses to obtain consumers' consent before collecting or sharing their "sensitive" personal information - such as financial or medical data, or religious or political affiliation - with third parties.
