Senators Urge Tech Industry to Allow Federal Privacy Laws

Several U.S. senators warned high-tech industry leaders that their efforts to block federal privacy legislation could backfire as state legislators move to fill the void with their own strict and potentially conflicting Internet privacy laws. The Senate Commerce Committee heard from industry representatives and privacy advocates at a hearing to discuss legislation that would establish uniform privacy rules for companies that collect personal information via the Internet.
