Company Files Trademark Suit Against Google Over Ads

A payday loans provider has filed a federal lawsuit against Google Inc., claiming its trademark was exploited by the leading Internet search engine in advertisement sales. CNG Financial Corp., which owns more than 1,300 Check 'n Go stores in 35 states, wants an order preventing Google from selling ads linked to the Check 'n Go name.

    EU Regulators Investigating Online Music Royalties

    European Union antitrust regulators said they were investigating the European agencies that collect royalties for musicians from Internet sites -- in parallel with other EU moves to open up the European market for online music. The European Commission said it was concerned that the groups' contracts with composers -- organized strictly along national lines -- might violate rules on restrictive business practices and give national copyright agencies a de facto monopoly.

    Lessons on how to use the internet safely should become compulsory in schools, university researchers say. The Cyberspace Research Unit at the University of Central Lancashire says learning about internet safety should be on the National Curriculum.
